A Clear View

The release of the 2022 State of Babies Yearbook occurred at a time when the nation has been grappling with the health, economic, social and emotional impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pandemic revealed the fragility and insufficiency of the many systems that should ensure stability among our nation’s families and equitable access to critical supports, particularly those with young children in their first three years.

The data included in the Yearbook show that too many babies face risks that can undermine development and, therefore, the ability to reach their full potential. These findings help policymakers understand what to pay attention to and how to think strategically about the actions that can be taken to create meaningful and sustainable change for all families with young children.
